Landfill & Pre-Treatment

From October 2007 all waste sent to landfill must have been pre-treated.

As a licensed operator of a pollution, prevention and control (PPC) landfill site we ensure that all non-recyclable and non-usable waste is subject to prior treatment unless:

• It is inert waste for which treatment is not technically feasible; or
• It is waste other than inert waste and treatment would not reduce its quantity or the hazards which it poses to human health or the environment.

In your role as the ‘waste producer’ you also have a duty to make sure that your waste has been pre-treated correctly. Luckily, we can advise and take care of this for you, saving you time and hassle.

Government policy and strategy for waste management also dictates that it should ‘move up the waste hierarchy.’ In other words, landfill disposal without some “benefit” should become a last resort, especially if that disposal is into a landfill. We are committed to supporting this strategy, and are constantly looking for new ways to reduce the percentage of waste that we send to landfill.
