It is thought that UK businesses, such as pubs, bars and restaurants, throw away over 600,000 tonnes of glass every year. Add to that domestic waste glass, such as jars and bottles, and it is evident that glass has the potential to cause a huge landfill problem.

Luckily, both clear and mixed glass is 100% recyclable and can re-processed again and again. This avoids the need to make new glass from scratch, therefore conserving non-renewable fossil fuels, reducing gas emissions and the lowering energy consumption.

A significant tonnage of the glass we collect is sent to the reprocessing industry, where it is crushed, de-contaminated, mixed and melted so that it can be moulded or blown into new bottles, jars and other glass-based products.
